PhD programmes

PhD student The Department has one of the largest Graduate Schools of Geography in the UK. Currently, there are approximately 100 students registered for PhD programmes and 175 on taught Masters programmes. There are currently over 40 academic staff in the department. In 2006-7 the department’s research income was £2million. Research in the Department is grouped into four areas, each of which has a leading international reputation for its work:
  •   Cities
  •   Environment, Politics & Development
  •   Environmental Monitoring & Modelling
  •   Hazards & Risk
Membership of these groups is non-exclusive, and there is considerable collaboration and cross-research group activity, particularly on the urban environment, land degradation, natural hazards, climate and water.
