Department of Education & Professional Studies

King's College London first entered the field of education in 1890 and was one of the earliest institutions to do so among British universities. The department is among the country's three highest-rated departments for the proportion of 3* and 4* rated outputs in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). Projects are funded by major agencies such as the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). Research conducted in the department informs all our taught programmes and has contributed to improving teaching and professional practice, debates on public policy and addresses the concerns of professional communities. Fundamental to our activities is a strong and dynamic research culture with over 60 academic staff including 17 Professors.
