King's Institute for the Study of Public Policy (KISPP)

The King’s Institute for the Study of Public Policy (KISPP) was set up in 2008 to provide a focus for teaching and research on public policy.
 
KISPP supports cross-departmental and cross-school teaching and research programmes in which public policy is a pervasive theme. The defining characteristic of the Institute is its blend of internationalism, interdisciplinarity, and commitment to active policy engagement.
 
In addition to providing a base of cross-departmental teaching in public policy, the Institute also accommodates three research and teaching groups:

ESRC  'Rising Powers,Global Challenges and Social Change' award to the Centre for Biomedicine and Society. The projects aims to establish a network of academics and policymakers in China, India and the UK who will work together to develop an analysis of competing state strategies of governance in global biomedical innovation. 
 
School for Social Care Research
Professor Jill Manthorpe Director of the Social Care Workforce Research Unit (SCWRU) has been appointed as a founder member  of the Executive Committee of the School for Social Care Research and an Associate Director of the School.
 
ESRC Seminar Series -The 'New' Ageing Populations: Mapping identities, health, needs and responses across the lifecourse
Dr Karen Lowton, Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Gerontology (with co-applicants Professor Paul Higgs at UCL and Dr Karen Ballard at University of Surrey) has been awarded ESRC funding for a series of eight seminars on the 'New' Ageing Populations: Mapping identities, health, needs and responses across the lifecourse.

The King’s Institute for the Study of Public Policy came into being on 1 August 2008. It is directed by Professor Ken Young and is administered by Keith Britto (Manager - Research and Strategy).
